Ben Ahmun scored a decisive second half penalty to secure a famous opening day win against last season’s runners-up Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Essity Stadium on Sunday.

The decisive moment came nine minutes into the second half, when Ben Nash up ended Harri John inside the box which earned the Bluebirds a penalty.

Up stepped summer signing Ahmun who calmly sent Nomads’ keeper George Ratcliffe  the wrong way to earn Tony Pennock’s team an excellent victory on the road.

Afterwards Pennock said: “I think our pre-season showed today. The boys are in a good place. I feel we’re a very fit side, and it was a good performance from one to 11 and the four lads who came off the bench.
